Ways to Contribute to SHG

Below is non-exhaustive list of ways you can make a significant contribution to this group (by yourself or with a group):

Take on a major volunteer job, either an existing one or one that needs to be done.

Help welcome newcomers with a quarterly tea or social event.

Create mentoring opportunities for new members.

Create a homeschool year book.

Arrange for professional 'school pictures.'

Facilitate the Chinook Book fundraiser or other group fundraiser.

Provide major support for a special event such as the Harvest Party, Not Back to School Park Day, or Summer Picnic.

Host or sponsor an event or field trip.  See the ideas page for suggestions and the how to organize an event page for advice on doing it.

Coordinate a Scholastic Book Club order.

Compile lists of resources/recommendations and post in group files.

Create a directory of homeschool family businesses (started once, but never completed).

Submit an article or do a column for the newsletter.

Follow up with thank you notes to venue and/or organizers after events and field trips.

Set up a curriculum swap or sale.

Edit or otherwise participate in production of the newsletter or directory.

Maintain or help with maintenance of the SHG web site.

Coordinate a parents’ or moms’ night out.

Coordinate speakers or educational events for parents.

Coordinate a talent show for the community.

Start and coordinate monthly support circles for parents.

Serve as treasurer.

Coordinate a monthly service project or club for SHG members to join.

Coordinate a monthly Q&Q meet-up that new homeschoolers can be directed to.

Create a childcare-swap.

Organize a lecture or leisure activity for parents.

Research new fundraising opportunities for SHG.
